Girl On The Train Review - Cheltenham

The Show, stars Giovanna Fletcher as Rachel;

Rachel Watson longs for a different life. Her only escape is the perfect couple she watches through the train window every day, happy and in love. Or so it appears. When Rachel learns that the woman she’s been secretly watching has suddenly disappeared, she finds herself as a witness and even a suspect in a thrilling mystery in which she will face bigger revelations than she could ever have anticipated.

The show itself is a slow burner and is brilliantly written, acted by all. It is very gripping and you do wonder what the second half brings with many people in the theatre gasping at the end of act 1, ready for the second act.

The show has many twists and turns, none to surprising if you’ve seen the movie and read the book you’ll know the unexpected or somewhat straight forward ending but the events leading up to the events is intresting; Even from someone who’s seen the movie, I completely forgot the plot, and the story – so was surprised and shocked with the ending.

It has some topics that may upset some younger viewers, with scenes that discuss hard hitting topics, such as “a death of a baby” and “domestic abuse”, and these scenes are brilliantly Giovanna Fletcher and Jason Merrells. Both these incredible actors, Giovanna Fletcher and Jason Merrells, perform in the Roles of Rachel Watson and Tom Watson, these sadly depart the roles on 29th March, so you only really have this week to see it with these actors in it.

From the next venue after Cheltenham, you’ll have different actors, with LOUISA LYTTON playing Rachel Watson.

Overal, the performance is outstanding and powerful. Really enjoyed it and recommend it. Be prepared to listen closely, its a play that doesn’t use headmics, so it relys on the audience being quiet.
