So, if you don’t know the story of Rocky Horror Picture Show or you’re seeing this for the first time then you’ll probably walk out of this performance going “oh what on earth have I just witnessed”
Which in theory sums up this show…
The Costumes and musical talent that is on offer in this incredibly talented cast is unreal, having seen Adam Strong in various roles on other shows including Rock Of Ages, it’s safe to say it’s something completely different for him; however he’s incredible and hilarious as Frank-n-Furter
The show lasts just over 2hrs, so it’s very fast paced with song after song, after song; so leaves scripting and dialogue to minimum; which if you’re going for a story, it’s, very loose and sort of easy to follow.
What stands out is the audience who dress up for the show; it’s incredible to see some of the costumes on offer on a Monday night! It’s mad and gives the cast a run for their money with costume design.

Oh; and if you’re seeing it for the first time; then you should brace you for the involvement of the audience in the first half with a very famous Time Warp song.. I won’t say what; as it took us by surprise.
What was a slight disappointment was the consistent calling out by a chap in the front row who was wearing, yes, wearing a tiger helmet; which after the first two or three calling out was fine; as given it was appropriate; unfortunately there was some ill timed moments further on; the cast looked genuinely annoyed at one point thinking, surely someone is going to ask him to respect others around him…
This show certainly isn’t your typical run of the mill musical show and is designed to be a great night out and I can only imagine that Friday and Saturday this week are going to be incredibly rowdy with the audience participation and the costumes even more bizarre.
Personally, the show wasn’t for me; hadn’t it been for some familiar faces, such as Adam Strong, Morgan Jackson (Heathers), Jayme-Lee Zanoncelli (Bat Out Of Hell The Musical) in the casting providing some incredible vocals and incredible talent; Especially Morgan, who backflips, I don’t think I’d of been able to cope with the show itself as it was a bit too overwhelming with the constant audience participation and fast paced performance.
The show; I rate 3 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️ – three stars for performances vocally and musicians
Perhaps, because I left thinking “what have I just watched…” which is the overall feeling that someone who we were talking to on the way out of the theatre said her first time was like “oh wow” maybe a second visit I’ll understand it and appreciate the show better?
The Show runs until Saturday, and the tickets sell out incredibly fast as it’s a popular show; you can find out about the production here; https://rockyhorror.co.uk/ and book for Cheltenham via their site; https://www.everymantheatre.org.uk/shows/the-rocky-horror-show/
